Our family took a trip to Colorado/Cheyenne, WY to welcome Jordan home from what he calls Afghanland. While they were there, his team transported and dropped supplies to our troops on the ground and also delivered supplies to the Pakistani flood victims. You can check out what he did in more detail here. He's such a good writer... all his posts are worth reading. But here's my favorite post. It's really short and really funny!

A dear friend asked me for updates about my kiddos, and seeing as how I have been so lousy at updating my blog lately, I realized that I owed her (as well as you) a few glimpses as to what my kiddos are doing. So here you go, copied and pasted from the email (with a few names changed to protect the innocent). :)

The kids are fabulous. Meg is into dressing up. She had 17 wardrobe changes on Christmas day and could barely contain her excitement at receiving a new Ariel dress-up costume as well as princess pjs (which totally count as dress-up clothes in her mind). I must tell you, we were kidding Jordan about needing to get married and give Meg some cousins. Jordan asked Meg who he should marry, and without hesitation, she said, "(name of J's latest lady friend whom we all instantly fell in love with and had our hearts crushed when it ended and are all still secretly hoping will re-kindle)." Just like it was common knowledge or a done deal! So we'll give her points for that one! Bless her heart, though, later that night she asked Jordan to marry her. She made him have a pretend wedding ceremony with her two times. (I guess the second was to make it stick). Then later that night she came to me very worried that Jordan had already married (former lady friend). She was so very concerned that her chances with Jobo had vanished forever. It was almost like a sigh of relief came over her when I assured her that Jordan was still, in fact, quite single. Sweet thing! :)

And my dear Eli...he's still such a momma's boy. He buries his head in my neck every time another mommy smiles at him. I cherish it...every moment. He's quite the toddler these days...a little weeble-wobble with every step. It makes me so sad. I cried the other day when he toddled into the laundry room and started helping me load the dryer. The fact that my baby was able to load the dryer was almost too much!

Ahhhhh...and sweet Ben. Where to begin with my sweetheart. He is as sweet as he is sour. (But we'll just concentrate on the sweet)! We were watching a Disney cartoon the other night and when it came to a sad part he snuggled up to me and said, "Don't worry, mommy, I'll protect you. It's okay." My little hero! He takes such pride in chivalry and taking care of his brother and sister.

I promise to try to keep the blog more up to date. I'm so very thankful that my little business has catapulted to a new level...I've recently been asked to do some custom logo/new business start up design (can't wait to share with you a new local business that I am soooo excited about), as well as custom t-shirt design among other things, and most excitingly wedding stationary design!!! (Have I publicly congratulated my sweet Lulu on her new engagement??? If not, remind me later to share all the great news!) I have customers from coast to coast and all area in between. All that to say that, my blog has taken a back seat for a while. But I am now resolved to keep it up and make it better than ever! Thanks for wanting to keep up with us! It's a wonderful life!!!

I'm reading book #2 of The Women of Ivy Manor Series. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE historical fiction? It's just about all I read. (And thank you, Leigh Ann, for keeping me stocked).

This series is tells the stories of four generations of women in the 20th century, set against the backdrop of four of the major wars, The Great War, World War II, The Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. The author describes the effects of war as "putting the fighting-age generation through a fiery furnace that forever changes them and, hence, their society." Being from a military family with a father and 26 year old brother who have both experienced war first hand, I'm especially drawn to these characters and am using their life experiences to somewhat imagine what life must have been like for the previous generations of my own family.

Book 2 begins in the late 30s where the author does a wonderful job of evoking images of their distinct fashion, as well as how the big band, golden era style of music paints the background and develops the stage for the character's play to be carried out. I was so inspired, I decided to share it with you, in a way, by the background and music I've chosen for my blog. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Meg likes to listen to music as she goes to sleep at night. This evening it was the Barlow Girl Christmas CD. She called me into her room to inform me that she had heard a very sad song. When I determined that Gloria in Excelsis Deo was the song she was referring to, she asked, 'Mommy, why when baby Jesus was born did the angels tell 'Chelsea to stay home'?"

UPDATE:: I should add that Meg has a (2nd) cousin (once removed) (or something of the sort) named Chelsea. That must have been why she was so concerned!

{Silhouette.Ornaments}

Because I just have to win a gift certificate to LK Art, I wanted to share a family tradition that I started this year. It started with an art project for Meg's pre-school that turned into my Christmas tree theme 25 years from now.

I took a picture of Meg's profile and, using photoshop, was able to turn it into a silhouette, like the old-timey ones that are now our family heirlooms. For Meg's pre-school, my idea was to mount them on decorative card stock, punch a hole, tie a ribbon and make an ornament. But when I saw how beautiful the silhouettes were mounted on the card stock, I couldn't bear to punch a hole in them! What if someone wanted to frame it? Or keep it for posterity?

So I came home and took pictures of Ben and Eli, purchased ornament size photo frames from Hobby Lobby and created my 2009 silhouettes. My goal is to take a profile picture every year so I'll have about 50 silhouette ornaments by the time the kids are grown. What a classic and sentimental tree I hope that will be!

(Because I don't have a picture of my finished ornament and the drawing ends in about 4 hours, I've attached the silhouette of Meg. If I take a picture of the finished ornament, I'll share that with you, too!)

Christmas Change

Miss Holley has done it again. What a beautiful way to describe this Blessed Holiday that truly gets over run and bogged down with the yuck of 'must haves' and 'gotta gets' and traffic and lines and blech.

I will just second what another reader commented..."“This happens not when we are perfect, not when we have much to give, but when we—who are all grown up now—open our hearts once again to childlike faith and the wonder of Christmas.” I loved the entire post, but that particular sentence socked me in the gut. You’ve articulated so well here what Christmas magic is all about. Thank you."

{Consequences}

First, I must preface with my attempt to explain war to a 2 and 4 year old.

When Jordan (also see Airforce Bearcat) left for 'Iraqistan', we talked about how "Jobo" was going far away, for a long time. I explained that we need heroes here at home (which was actually a small part of my attempt to encourage Ben not to bite his sister and brother...he needs to be a hero and not a bad guy...but I digress) and we need heroes far away to keep us safe. I would occasionally quiz them as to what Jobo was doing and they would, for the most part, answer, "Jobo is being our hero far away."

BUT. One day. I asked Meg, "What is Jobo doing?" And without hesitation, she replied, "He's shooting the bad guys."

WELL. So much for sugar coating.

SO. Today, I called for Meg and Ben to come downstairs for naps. When I heard no rustle to comply, I increased the intensity of my request by stating "the consequences" for not coming downstairs by the time I counted to three. After the countdown and with still no rustle to comply I marched upstairs and delivered "the consequences."

On the way downstairs, Meg decided to give me some "consequences" of my own.

And I quote. "Momma, if you don't stop giving me consequences, I'm going to have Jobo shoot you, too!" (Insert the mental image of my contorted mouth and bobbing shoulders as I tried my darnedest to conceal my inner outburst of laughter).

Momma, you 'bad guy', you.

As we dropped Meg off on her first day of pre-school, she was so excited I could barely get her to stop long enough to take the obligatory first day of school picture. As she walked in though, I could tell she was the slightest bit nervous because she pulled Jessie (the Cowgirl) out of her backpack, carrying her close as she ventured out to discover her new classroom and meet her new friends. She quickly found her friend Parker playing with the playdough and became so engrossed with the cookie cutters that she didn't even notice when I snuck in to take some more first day pictures.

And where was the mother when all this scavenging and disaster was occurring, one might ask? She was upstairs picking up the toys with the lifeguard. (A 3 1/2 year old lifeguard). When Meg informed me that's who she was pretending to be, I informed her that Miss Lifeguard still needed to help pick up the toys. That's when she informed me, "sorry, mommy, but all lifeguards do is just sit here. I'll just sit here and make sure you don't get hurt while you pick up the toys."

Humph. I'll give her points for a good try.

The other evening as our household was winding down for the evening, I sat down in front of the TV to feed Eli.

I wasn't really paying attention to what was on for a few minutes until I looked up and realized it was a newlyweds type game show. You may have seen the previews for it...the women were blindfolded and feeling each of the husbands' booties...trying to determine which one belonged to her hubby. (Honestly, I should say, definitely not my first choice of viewing options, but for not having the remote within arms reach, it was somewhat amusing...)

Amusing, maybe, until my innocent 3 1/2 year old little girl walks in and watches the TV with a look of total confusion on her face. As I scanned the room in desperation to find the remote to change the channel (and of course, not being able to locate it anywhere), I was concerned about how this mental image might scar her precious mind for the rest of her life.

Until...she asked the funniest question, "Mommy, why are those girls looking for those boys' wallets?"

Ahhhh...thank you, Lord, for the innocence of a child.

So...Easter was only a month ago...how about a pic (or six).

I've been working on getting caught up on tlou...(you didn't think I'd given up did you...gasp...) I'm caught up believe it or not (only missed one week)...I just need to post them. But in getting caught up I remembered that I never posted an Easter picture. Or thanked my team. Yes, it only took seven of you, but I never left my house to go shopping. (Yes, who has the time when there are three, 3 and under to tag along).

But I think we look pretty snazzy...not to mention somewhat coordinated!

The boys outfits are from Dawn (she dropped the clothes off to my garage. How's that for service). Dana provided Meg's dress (again to my garage). We were going to go with a dress that Keri found so I need to include her as well in my thanks. Mom and Laura found my jacket and pants (and you can't see it in this picture, but I have on a tank underneath that coordinates with the blue in Meg's dress). And a very special thanks to Lincoln, who shopped with my brother (while on the phone with my mom) to find my size jacket at TJ Maxx.

And since I don't believe that Stacy and Clinton are going to be knocking on my door anytime soon awarding me my fashion trophy, I thought I'd better take the time to thank you all now on the blog.

All joking aside, I can't thank my friends and family enough for all the help you've given me. God does provide and I thank you all for being his servants.

Have I mentioned my sweet friend Holley? (maybe here or here)... Reading her blog just inspires me to write (and I'm totally not a writer so that's a big deal). She just wrote a blog about how 'not cool' she is. She even included her 'not cool' pictures from junior high and high school. (Two brave points to you!)

{Sidenote: Facebook...why is it that no one posts the good pictures of us in junior high and high school...only the ones that we really wish we could forget...in Holley's case and in mine, the ones with the HUGE bangs and embarrassing footwear selections. A big thank you to all my dear friends that insist on forcing me to relive those oh, so painful years.}

So...my thought is...uncool sisters...UNITE! We've all been there. 'Everyone knows the feeling'. And it is truly by the grace of God that we are what we are today. Isn't it nice to know that now, we've made it past those years and we can sit back and laugh at the junior high trends gone by?

So in support of Holley (and in hopes that ALL my girlfriends will do the same...you know who you are...I will be checking your blogs in anticipation of your pictures) I'm posting some of my most embarrassing pictures for you today. Holley mentioned loafers with white socks...my mom couldn't find my loafers picture, but I think this one will suffice. (Could the rise on those jeans be any higher, or the pant lets any shorter? And how 'bout that braided belt. Ya'll remember that one?)

And then let's not forget the facebook message that I received last week, letting me know that my 7th grade homecoming picture had been posted in all it's glory. I couldn't find that exact picture, but here's what I looked like that day. Sigh...I think the picture speaks for itself. 'Everyone knows the feeling'.

{Sidenote: Bangs...I worked forever in the mornings to get that front part curled down and that back part curled back to create that perfect little rainbow...only to be mortified half way through the day to catch a glimpse of my shadow and notice that my perfect little rainbow and split right down the middle...anyone know that feeling?}

So back to my sweet friend. Holley, while we may not be cool, I want you to know that you are inspiring. You inspire me to write. You inspire me through your book and devotions to connect daily with my heavenly father. You inspire me to be thankful for my children and never take them for granted. Your cards inspire joy in the hearts of my friends. You're inspiring!

And how about a theme song for our walk down memory lane. My sister, Lulu, introducing me to all things great, including this song by Ben Rector, The Feeling. Isn't it good to know we're not in this alone. Queens of Uncoolness...UNITE!

Ben's Thank You and Coolest Umple

Umple Jobo was one of the many who remembered to call Ben on his birthday. (Again, thank ya'll who called...he truly knew it was his special day). We had to leave a message when we called Jobo back and Jobo is just cool enough to know how to save it and send it to me in an email.

Hope you all enjoy hearing Ben's voice (as well as my prompts) on his 2nd birthday. I hope I never forget just how sweet this little angel is.

Also, I just have to include Jobo's email to me this morning. Bennett Tharel Baker is named after the many great Tharel men in his legacy, but especially after my more than amazing brother who I view as a man after God's own heart. I pray that both my boys will grow up to be just like him.

Jobo included this song which just might be one of the sweetest songs of all time. You're going to love it (almost as much as we love our Jobo)!

Creatively Sharing My Faith

My fabulous friend, Holley, posted on her blog an interview with someone who I really think should be one of my new best friends, Jeanna Winters. She's a crafty gal who loves finding new ways to share her faith and encourage others! (Remind you of anyone you know???) She wrote a new book called Inspirational Home: Simple Ideas for Uplifting Decor and Craft. (Hmmmm...hubby...I'm remembering that Mother's Day and a certain birthday are just around the corner).

But I digress. In order to win a copy of Jeanna's book, I must post about a crafty way that I have recently shared my faith, so I thought I would share some ideas on the blog as well!

One of my very favorite craft supplies are the clear, plastic badge/id holders that can be found at Wal-Mart or any office supply store. A million and one uses for these nifty things!

1) Purse sized photo album. Cut your photos to size (or use your scrapbooking supplies to make mini pages), plop them in the pouch, attach a ring and 3 or 4 or thirty ribbons...done!

2) Bookmarks. I love quotes and verses. And I love bookmarks. So I make my own. I loved the list of quotes that Holley posted a few days ago. They are printed out and ready to be crafted (in my next hour of spare time). Write or print the quote on cardstock (or use your scrapbooking supplies to make mini pages), plop it in the pouch, attach 3 or 4 or thirty ribbons...done! These make super presents to stuff in birthday cards! (You could even make a mini book of verses that you've been wanting to memorize and pull your book out when you're stopped at a stop light or standing in line at the store).

3) My latest project was inspired by the Seven Prayers a Day idea from the Story of Audry Caroline blog. I made a mini digital scrapbook page for each prayer, plopped them in the pouches, attached a ring and 3 or 4 or thirty ribbons...done! And here's how they turned out!

Happy Birthday Ben! You're the big TWO today!

Because Ben tends to be more of an independent soul who loves to play more with a buddy than in a big group, we decided to forgo the big party this year, and opt instead for 'Ben's Special Day' and a trip to Silver Dollar City. We're hoping to make him feel like a super star today, instead of him getting lost in the crowd at a shin dig. I think it's working!!!

We made it to Branson on Saturday and had a fabulous time! Not much time in lines and lots and lots of rides! He drug us from frogs to caterpillars to ladybugs and back to the 'froggies' and we even got to dance in the rain!

And today is Ben's Special Day. Ben, Meg and I made a cake this morning and they got to lick the bowl. We had a special lunch with cake and candles for desert. Tonight for dinner, we're doing a picnic in the park followed by a trip to the ice cream shop.

And if you think about it, give Ben a call to wish him a Happy Day! He loves to talk on the phone and feels like such a big boy when he gets to hold the phone 'all by self'! Holy Moly! It was March the last time I posted! It's amazing how busy I've been doing (nothing). I know I've been doing things, but I don't know what.

Maybe Easter crafts. (Have you driven by my house and seen our tissue paper cross hanging in the top windows? We had a great time with that one). But we haven't even decorated Easter eggs or made our Easter cake yet. (Good thing my kids are young enough to just appreciate a craft or baking project even if we've already missed the holiday).

Maybe rearranging my bedroom. We bought a new bed!!! And I've picked out our new linens!!! (I just have to save up for them).

Maybe going to gymnastics! Meg and Ben both started three weeks ago!

Maybe just trying to keep the house afloat (an all day every day task it seems)!

Anyway, I just know I haven't had time to get to the computer much at ALL!

I haven't given up on Project 365. The pictures are all there (mostly) waiting to be scrapbooked and posted! I know I'll get to it soon!

But right now I'm off to "mistreat" my bedroom windows. And in honor of this task, I posted a button to one of my new favorite blogs, The Nesting Place. She's just like me! Loves to make things beautiful...has no time for scissors or curtain rods. That's why she calls them window 'mis'treatments! Ha! Don't you love it!

I'll post some pics of the bedroom once it's complete!

Baby Curls

Sigh....the baby curls are gone.

I really swore I would never do it. But he was beginning to look like a Ragamuffin.

It wasn't because Brian was (jokingly) threatening to take a razor to it...it was because he was beginning to look like a Ragamuffin.

Okay, so we apparently need a little Silver Dollar City help!

Brian took the day off on Friday so we packed up the family (2 adults, 3 kiddos three and under) and headed to Branson. It was such a beautiful day. We couldn't have asked for better weather. What we could have asked for was a better plan.

Neither Brian or I had been to SDC since we were kids. Needless to say, we were a little lost. We did look at a map and made it to where I thought the kid rides might be. When we got there we discovered that the rides were for kids 36 inches and taller. Poor Ben...he's exactly 34 1/2 inches...which is apparently good enough if a youngster is manning the rides. But not good enough if the crotchety old man is monitoring the exact same ride five minutes later. I guess I'm glad that there are people there looking out for the safety of my family, but it was so sad to see Ben's little face peering through the bars at Daddy and Meggy as they rode together.

As soon as we got home we found a pair of Landon's old tennis shoes that Ben can wear next time. That gives him 1/2 an inch. So he just needs to grow one more inch! Pray for a growth spurt!

After the fact, we learned that there are some little green frogs...maybe some butterflies...somewhere that Ben could have ridden...but yeah...we never found those.

We did find the train...that was fun. Eli screamed the saddest little scream every time they blew the whistle. Ben really just wanted to climb over all the seats...and all the people in the seats. Meg sat still, though. Did I mention it was a beautiful day... (That was the best part).

Meg did a little jig as soon as she got off the tea cup ride. Oh, to not have to contain your inner joy!

Welcome to the Dark Side

My little dark storm cloud showed back up a few days ago.

I had it a little after my second baby was born. With the birth of my third baby it was more feeling totally out of control (hello...three kids three and under) and not being able to stay on top of my emotional outbursts. Requiring way too much energy to be happy. And really, really worn out.

My mom called me one day soon after Eli was born and I answered the phone crying hysterically. Someone had broken a piece of furniture while I was nursing. I had no control over the situation. And I was just MAD that there was nothing I could do about it. I wasn't mad at my kids. And I didn't want to hurt them. I still loved my baby and loved to hold him. I still loved playing with the older two. I still loved my life. It was just exhausting. And a little dark.

Mom told me to call my doctor and tell them what was going on. I thought, "Oh, they see this all the time. They're just going to tell me that it will pass." I knew that this was not PPD, just a really bad case of the baby blues. I thought that if I just gave it a couple of weeks, it would go away by itself. But my mother has paid her dues and earned my respect 1000 times over. She's always right. Looking back, now I know that she was even right when I was 16 and knew that she was just trying to ruin my life. So now if she says jump, I say how high. And I called my doctor and told him I was having some bad days.

I was surprised that they moved some things around and got me in to see him the very next day. He was nothing but sympathetic and understanding. And he recommended I start a round of anti-depressants. I started feeling better gradually and after about one month, I was really feeling like my normal self again! But I still had that nagging feeling that maybe I would have gotten better on my own anyway.

I stopped taking my medicine truly by accident. I just forgot...for four or five days. When I finally remembered them, I was still feeling great and assumed that I had been cured and didn't need them anymore. So I stopped taking them for good! And felt great!

Until a few days ago. And it really hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't want to go into great detail because this is the internet. But just know that I'm completely open to talking about it if you ask. I started feeling like I am drifting around about three feet below everyone else. And that it just takes too much energy to reach their level...it just takes too much energy to even smile. And I am quite overwhelmed with the idea of doing much more than taking care of our basic needs...food, clothing and shelter. It just became quite apparent that I needed to start taking my medication again...at least until I go back to meet with my doctor next month.

Please know that I am still very, very happy with my life. I love my husband and my kids more than I can express. I'm writing this because I know I'm not the only mom who goes through this. Some have it a little better, some have it much worse. But if you're reading this and going through anything similar, please know that we're all in this together. I would love to listen to you...or do your laundry...or sweep up the Cheerios under your kitchen table. Tara Mock* put it best when she said ,"You are not alone, this is NOT your fault, and you WILL get better!"

And so will I.

Spit Happens

I'm going to win a make-over! I just know they're going to pick me!!! Just like all these blog giveaways that I enter...and never win. But if I keep entering enough, I know I'll have to win something one of these days!!!

I had to submit one close up pic and one full body shot. So I dutifully picked my most recent close up shot and begrudgingly resisted the urge to photoshop 10 years off of my face. And then I had Brian take my full body shot on Sunday night after a long hard (typical) day. Do I look pitiful enough??? Please note the spit up stains on my t-shirt. Those were for the sympathy vote.

And they're totally not an exaggeration. I walk around all day every day covered with spit-up. In fact, if you took a picture of me right now, my whole left arm is moist and smelly. Brian swears with all sincerity that every time he picks Eli up, he is covered within five minutes. He thinks this only happens to him. My sister has learned to wear only her nasty t-shirts to my house because she's going to leave with a little white trail running down her back. Yesterday as I carried Ben downstairs to take his nap, he laid his head down on my (spitty) shoulder then immediately popped up with a quizzical look on his face. He pointed to his room and said, "wipe!" Last week Meg told her teachers at school that Eli had to go to the doctor because 'he throws up all over Mommy.'

But I digress. I'll let you know as soon as I win. Don't hold your breath.

Don't you just love it when you see God's hand working out the details?

So here I am, stay-at-home mom of three, three and under...shopping for Easter outfits was going to happen, when??? And how in the world am I going to find three "coordinating" outfits for two boys and a girl in sizes 6-12 mo., 2T and 4T?

And here's the kicker...stay on budget!!! I mean, sure, I could totally order the precious blue, green and white checked outfits on page 33 of the most recent Orient Expressed catalogue...but unfortunately for me, those three outfits are about $100 more than I think I can reasonably spend. (Plus, I am also still inspired by Queen B's most recent post on ways to save money). So, fancy outfits...out of the question. Might as well just call it all a wash and forget cute Easter pics this year. That's really what I was thinking.

So, a couple of days ago a sweet friend called to say that she was getting ready to sell some of her little boy's clothes...would I want to take a look? Now ya'll know me! I'm all about me some hand me downs...strike that...gently used clothing looking for a new home. And she was sitting in my driveway, ready to bring them into my home. Now, when does that EVER happen? I have the greatest friends, EVER! Promise!

So in looking through the clothes, I found some super, super cute things for Ben to wear...AND she also had something precious for Eli. Two down, one to go.

So, today, I called another dear friend, Keri, who just happened to be out shopping for her two little girls (who are always the most adorable two little things you have ever seen). She said, you know, there really are some super, cute things, here at Once Upon a Child, you should come take a look. Ha! So funny! But then, she offered to go shopping for me! Best friends, EVER, you bet! She got me some of the most amazing things...and brought them to me within the hour! And wouldn't you know...super cute dress, that totally coordinates with the boys outfits!

How do you like that? Three coordinating Easter outfits, right sizes, totally within my budget, without even leaving my home. Is God good, or what??? Take a look!

So my new goal this year is called Project 365 and that is to take a picture everyday to document our year. I'm calling it "The Life of Us." Those of you who know me best know that I usually have these grand ideas that last a few months and then fall off into oblivion somewhere. I say they just fall into my 'gliosis' (that's the dead spot that the MRI actually found in my brain. When I forget things, I blame that on my gliosis as well). Anyway, I digress. I'll try to actually finish this project this year and post some of my Project 365 pages here too for ya'll to stay caught up! (And yes, I see the typo on Eli's page but I'm too tired to go back and fix it now)! :)

So, as I finished up some chores around the house, I walked into the family room and this sweet image is what I saw. A loving sister and brother, sitting together in a laundry basket, enjoying the Imagination Movers on The Disney Channel and sharing their Cheerios ever so peacefully. Filled with a moment of "ahh, all is right with the world, my children are happy and content" I snapped this quick picture. Then remembering that my youngest child was taking his morning nap, I did what any mother of three who hasn't showered since Sunday morning would do, I insanely decided that I might could sneak away to take a quick shower. Ha!!! Half way through the shower, Meg came in and delivered the message that Ben was up to his old tricks again. She was right. When I got out of the shower, this is what I saw.

So much for my peaceful morning.

Elliot Lashley finally arrived on Saturday, October 25 at 11:24 am. He was 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. Here are a couple of pictures until I have time to sit down and type the whole story. He was not even two hours old when Meg and Nanny came to visit. Meg and Ben are so proud of their new baby Eli...aka EIEIO (as Ben likes to call him).

Sweet Things

Meg has said and done a couple of sweet things that I thought I'd pass along.

Yesterday, I caught Ben playing in the trash can...again. So, I spanked his little hand and told him, "no, no." When I looked up, I saw Meg's face, obviously distraught that Ben was being spanked. She immediately ran over, gently picked up his hand, gave it a kiss and told him he was "all better."

Then, last night Brian and I were talking with Meg about how tiny her new little brother is going to be when we bring him home from the hospital. As she questioned us some more and processed the information she said to me, "Maybe when the baby in your tummy goes to sleep, I sing him Baby Mine." (That's one of the songs I always sang to Meg and Ben as babies while I rocked them to sleep. She remembers!!!).

Meg's Birthday Party

We had a small birthday party for Meg on Friday night. She chose the theme, "pink polka dots," so I made her a pink polka dot tutu, a pink polka dot "3" t-shirt, and pink polka dot flip flops. (Those lasted all of 5 minutes!) Ben really enjoyed his cupcake, and Meg loved getting to see her friends and family! You are truly special to her! Funny story, when Meg woke up this morning and we told her that today was her birthday, she acted surprised and said, "I have two birthdays?" (You know, party day and the real day). We LOVE you, Meg! We are astonished that you are already three years old. Happy Birthday!!!
